This is a good initiative. Getting potential feedback early in the process is key to ensuring the students' time is well spent, given they are typically working within a semester format. It is also a way to get the students out of the classroom, which keeps them interested and engaged. The class I teach has a section of ensuring students are solving "the right problem", and part of that is engaging with those who stand to benefit from the problem being solved.
